What every website learns the moment you arrive

You do not have to click anything or fill in a form. Simply loading a page hands over your public IP address, which reveals your approximate location and the name of your internet provider. The connection itself also carries your browser and operating system, your preferred languages, and the page you arrived from.

This check shows you that information as a site would see it. Everything on this page is detected in your own browser or resolved from your own connection — nothing about you is stored on our side.

How accurate is IP geolocation?

Usually accurate to the city or region, rarely to anything closer. Your IP is mapped to wherever your provider registered that block of addresses, which can be a datacentre some distance from you. Mobile connections are particularly loose — traffic often exits through a gateway in an entirely different city. If the location shown looks wrong, that is normal and not a fault.

What is reliably correct is the ISP or organisation name, and the country. Those two are enough for a site to make decisions about you: which content to show, which currency to price in, and whether to treat your connection as suspicious.

The WebRTC leak test, and why it matters

WebRTC is the browser technology behind video calls and peer-to-peer connections. To make a direct connection work, it needs to discover the addresses your device can be reached on — and it can ask the operating system for those directly, bypassing your VPN's tunnel entirely.

The result is a well-known failure mode: your VPN is connected, your public IP looks correctly masked, and yet a script on the page can still read your real address. This test asks WebRTC for that information and shows you exactly what it returns.

Reading the result

  • Only your VPN's address appears — no leak. This is what you want.
  • A private address appears (starting 192.168, 10. or 172.16–31) — this is your local network address, not a public leak. Harmless in most contexts.
  • Your real public IP appears alongside the VPN's — that is a genuine leak, and any site you visit can read it.

If you find a leak, most reputable VPN clients include a WebRTC or leak-protection setting. Browser extensions can also block WebRTC entirely, at the cost of breaking video calls.

What a VPN does and does not hide

A VPN replaces your visible IP address and encrypts traffic between you and the VPN server. It does not stop browser fingerprinting, remove cookies, hide your screen resolution or installed fonts, or prevent you from identifying yourself by logging into an account. Masking your IP is one layer, not the whole picture.

Frequently asked questions

Is anything I see on this page sent to your server?

No. Your IP is resolved through a public lookup so it can be displayed to you, and the WebRTC test runs entirely inside your browser. Results are not logged or stored.

Why is my location wrong?

IP geolocation maps your address to wherever your provider registered that block, which can be a datacentre in another city. Mobile connections are especially imprecise. Country and ISP are usually correct even when the city is not.

What is a WebRTC leak?

WebRTC can ask your operating system directly for the addresses your device uses, bypassing a VPN tunnel. When that happens, a website can read your real IP address even though your VPN is connected and appears to be working.

How do I fix a WebRTC leak?

Most reputable VPN clients have a WebRTC or leak-protection setting that should be enabled. Alternatively, a browser extension can disable WebRTC entirely, though this will stop video calling from working.

Does using a VPN make me anonymous?
